Fufuno-Yu is a hot bath facility located in Arashiyama, Kyoto.
It’s an easy place to stop by after sightseeing in the area.
The bath is about a 10-minute walk from popular spots such as Tenryu-ji Temple and Togetsukyo Bridge.
Please note that guests with tattoos are not allowed to enter.

The best time to visit is earlier in the day.
If you go before 3:00 PM, it is usually less crowded, and sometimes you may even have the bath almost to yourself. Highly recommended!

How to Enter Fufuno-Yu (Entrance Procedure)

The photo above shows the entrance.
As you can see, it’s surrounded by plants and trees, so it can be a little difficult to find.
Please look for the spot shown in the photo above and enter through that entrance.

Once you step inside, you will find the shoe storage area like in the photo below.
Please take off your shoes at the entrance and place them in the shoe locker.
Take the shoe locker key with you and hand it to the staff at the reception.

This is the reception area.
Shampoo and body soap are provided in the bathing area, so you do not need to bring your own.
If you need towels, you can rent them at the reception (for an additional fee).

浴室の魅力を解説

The hot spring quality is Simple Spring (low-tonicity, mildly alkaline).
The pH level is 7.8.

Hot springs with a pH of 7.5 or higher are known as “beauty springs,” as they make your skin feel smooth and silky.

  • Silky Bath

The Silky Bath is a special type of bath filled with countless ultra-fine bubbles (microbubbles), giving the water a white, cloudy appearance and a soft, silky feel. At Fufu no Yu, this is my favorite bath. The temperature is pleasantly warm—not too hot—so you can soak for a long time and fully relax.

Because pure white baths like this are quite rare in Japan, it feels unique and extra special. The microbubbles help warm the body more efficiently and can improve skin moisture, making the Silky Bath especially perfect during the dry winter season.

  • Indoor Bath

The indoor bath is spacious and comfortable.

Try resting your head on the edge of the tub and placing a warm towel over your eyes. Stretching out your legs will help you relax even more.

  • Open-Air-Bath

The open-air bath is surrounded by rugged natural stones.
It feels open and refreshing, and it’s perfect for enjoying some fresh-air bathing as well. The surrounding greenery sways gently in the wind, creating an even more relaxing atmosphere.

  • Sauna and Cold Bath

The sauna is one of the best features of Fufu-no-Yu. As mentioned earlier, visiting between around 12:00 and 15:00 means fewer people, so you can often enjoy the sauna almost entirely to yourself.
The cold bath is colder than those at many other hot spring facilities. There are reclining chairs where you can lie down and cool off, creating the perfect environment for a full sauna experience.

Relax Your Body in the Rest Area

After your bath, you can relax in a traditional Japanese tatami room. It’s the perfect place to rest your tired body after walking around Arashiyama. The quiet atmosphere makes it one of my favorite spaces in the facility.

  • 1:00 PM – Tenryu-ji Temple

Tenryu-ji is one of Kyoto’s most important Zen temples.
It was built in the 14th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It’s a must-visit spot for anyone coming to Arashiyama for the first time.

  • 2:00 PM – Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is extremely popular among international visitors. To be honest, it gets very crowded around midday, so if you want to enjoy it more peacefully, I recommend visiting in the morning.

  • Togetsukyo Bridge

Togetsukyo Bridge is located on the way to Fufu-no-Yu. It offers a beautiful view and a classic Kyoto scenery that you can enjoy as you walk across.
