Arima Onsen: A Historic Hot Spring Town Famous for Its Unique Mineral Waters
■ About Arima Onsen
Arima Onsen is one of the oldest hot spring towns in Japan and has long been cherished by many famous historical figures. Rich in tradition and atmosphere, it remains one of the country’s most charming onsen destinations.
Known for its exceptional mineral quality, Arima Onsen has consistently been ranked among the top three hot spring resorts in Japan since ancient times.
■ The Charm of Arima Onsen
The greatest attraction of Arima Onsen is its unique mineral waters. They are broadly divided into two types: “Kinsen” (Gold Spring), which contains high levels of iron and salt, and “Ginsen” (Silver Spring)”, which includes carbonated water and radon.
To experience both types, it is recommended to visit several different bathhouses in the area, or to go to Taiko no Yu, a facility where you can enjoy both Kinsen and Ginsen in one place.

Kinosaki Onsen: The Best Hot Spring Town Experience in Japan
■ About Kinosaki Onsen
Kinosaki Onsen is a historic hot spring town with a history of over 1,300 years. Along a picturesque river lined with willow trees, you’ll find traditional ryokan inns, local restaurants, and public bathhouses. One of the most enjoyable ways to experience the town is by strolling through the streets in a yukata (light cotton kimono).
Walking around in a yukata while visiting different bathhouses—known as “onsen hopping”—is especially popular among international travelers and offers a truly authentic Japanese cultural experience.
■ The Charm of Kinosaki Onsen
The greatest charm of Kinosaki Onsen is that the entire town feels like one large hot spring resort. Walking from bathhouse to bathhouse and enjoying different baths is a wonderfully relaxing experience, and it allows you to fully immerse yourself in traditional Japanese atmosphere.
There are seven public bathhouses in total, and you can visit them all if you like. However, soaking in two or three baths is usually enough for most people, as visiting too many can be physically tiring. Be sure to pace yourself and enjoy the experience comfortably.
