About Tron Onsen Inari-yu
Tron Onsen Inari-yu is an artificial hot spring beloved by locals. Located near a traditional shopping arcade, it offers visitors a chance to experience real, everyday life in Kyoto, away from the typical tourist spots.
An artificial hot spring in Japan refers to bath water infused with granulated natural minerals mined from the earth. When these minerals are immersed in hot water, they emit far-infrared rays that help warm the body deeply from the core.
Based on my many visits to Tron Onsen Inari-yu, I will share an honest and balanced review, highlighting both its strengths and its weaknesses.

Bath Variety & Quality ★★☆☆☆
While the variety of baths is limited, the Tron Onsen (artificial hot spring) is very effective at warming the body, making it ideal for heating up when you feel cold. However, visitors expecting a natural hot spring or a wide range of bath types may find it somewhat underwhelming. It also does not offer the naturally smooth, silky feel on the skin that is characteristic of true natural hot springs.
Atmosphere & Authenticity ★★★★★
This is a truly authentic Kyoto public bath, used far more by locals than by international tourists. Rather than a typical sightseeing experience, it is best suited for those who want to deepen their understanding of Kyoto and experience everyday local life.
The staff are warm and welcoming, mainly women in their 40s–50s and 70s–80s, creating a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You can feel the kindness and warmth of the people, which is part of what makes this place so special.
It is highly recommended to try communicating with the locals and enjoy this genuine community experience.
Comfort ★★☆☆☆
The facility is well maintained and kept clean, with no issues in terms of basic usability. As this is a public bath mainly used by locals stopping by after work, the facilities are compact. Rather than a place to relax for long periods, it is better suited for washing up, bathing, and refreshing both body and mind.
The resting area is small and can become crowded.
Overall comfort is limited, so visitors tend to keep their stay relatively short.
Accessibility for Tourists ★★★☆☆
It is accessible by bus from central Kyoto, and within walking distance from the Nijō Castle area.
However, it is located in a spot that can be difficult to find without carefully checking Google Maps or another map app.
Shampoo, body soap, and towels are not provided, so please bring your own or purchase them at the front desk.
Scenic Value / Surroundings ★★★★☆
There is a popular Sanjo Shopping Arcade nearby, well loved by Kyoto residents. The area is not flashy or touristy, but instead offers a strong sense of everyday local life.
At Sanjo Shopping Arcade, the food is excellent, and simply walking through the area allows you to discover many small but memorable attractions.
Tron Onsen Inari-yu does not have an outdoor bath, so the scenic value inside the public bath itself is limited.
