Rating:★★★☆☆(15 stars total)

Bath Variety & Quality:★★★☆☆

Mibu Onsen Hanano-yu features both indoor and outdoor baths, allowing guests to enjoy natural hot spring water. There are baths with different temperatures—some are hotter, while others are cooler—so even those who are sensitive to heat can relax comfortably.

One minor drawback is that the hot spring water is not sourced directly from Kyoto, but brought in from neighboring Shiga Prefecture.

While the facility offers a wide variety of baths, it is very popular among locals, which means it can get crowded and may not always provide a completely relaxing experience.

Atmosphere & Authenticity:★★☆☆☆

The facility is well-maintained and clean. The majority of visitors are local Japanese rather than international tourists, making it a hot spring that is truly rooted in the local community. While it is an authentic local onsen, it is primarily established as a place for locals to relax and unwind at the end of the day, so in terms of tourist-oriented facilities, it may not be considered particularly well-equipped.

Comfort:★★☆☆☆

Shampoo and body soap are provided, and towels are available for rent. There are also rest areas and dining facilities, although during busy times it may be difficult to find a seat. Overall, the basic amenities for a comfortable stay are well in place.

At the back of the rest area, there is a women-only space, making the facility very considerate for female guests. As a man, I personally felt it was a little unfair… but I understand that many women may feel uneasy if men are present, so it makes sense from that perspective.

Accessibility for Tourists:★★★★☆

It is conveniently located, making it easy to reach from Kyoto Station or downtown Kyoto.

Scenic Value / Surroundings:★★★☆☆

The onsen is located in a residential area, so it does not offer much in terms of scenic views or tourist attractions. However, its convenient location means there are many guesthouses and hotels nearby, making it a popular choice for visitors to relax at the end of their day.
