Rating: ★★★★☆ (22 stars total)
Bath Variety & Quality ★★★★★
aiko no Yu is a rare hot spring facility where you can enjoy both of Arima Onsen’s famous waters—Gold Spring and Silver Spring—in one place.
Gold Spring is rich in iron and salt, giving it a reddish-brown color and a thick, slightly cloudy texture.
Silver Spring comes in two types: a carbonated spring and a radon-based radioactive spring. Both are clear, colorless, and have a smooth, light feel.
Because both types of hot springs are highly mineral-rich, you can truly feel the benefits of soaking in a natural onsen.
The facility features six open-air baths and four different indoor baths, making it easy to relax and enjoy your time without getting bored, even during a long stay.

Atmosphere & Authenticity ★★★★★
The interior is designed with a strong focus on traditional Japanese history.
While it has some theme-park-like elements, the facility still allows visitors to experience the hot spring culture and history of Arima. Even for first-time visitors, the space clearly conveys the unique atmosphere and character of Arima Onsen.
Comfort ★★★★☆
The rest areas, dining options, and amenities are well-equipped, making it comfortable to spend the entire day here. You can enjoy the hot springs, have a meal, and then return for another soak, which is a great way to fully relax.
The reason this category did not receive the highest rating is that the reclining chairs in the rest area tend to fill up quickly. When visiting with friends or family, it can be difficult to sit next to each other and have a casual conversation.
Accessibility for Tourists ★★★☆☆
Arima Onsen is located about one hour from central Osaka and a little over two hours from central Kyoto. As it is slightly away from major city centers and requires several transfers by public transportation, it is recommended to check your route in advance if you plan to visit Taiko no Yu or Arima Onsen.
For first-time international visitors, getting there may feel a bit confusing.
Scenic Value / Surroundings ★★★★★
Arima Onsen is famous as one of Japan’s three most celebrated hot spring towns, and one of its greatest attractions is the ability to enjoy both nature and the traditional onsen town atmosphere at the same time. The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons, and the area is especially stunning during the fresh green season and autumn foliage.
Not only the facility itself, but the surrounding area as well, offers a highly satisfying overall stay experience.
